About the Journal
Focus and scope
Il castello di Elsinore is a semiannual journal of theatre studies deeply rooted in the Italian University. Founded in 1988 and edited by the DAMS (Department of Artistic, Musical and Performing Arts Disciplines) of the University of Turin, the journal brought together almost half of the Full professors of History of theatre in Italy and distinguished scholars from foreign universities in its Board of directors. Since 2008 it has been published by Edizioni di Pagina. The journal is divided into three sections: the first, entitled Essays, includes rigorous critical studies of figures and works from the history of theater; the second, Materials, collects and takes care of documents, letters and poetic reflections; the third, Books (or Polemics), reviews and analyzes the most significant events of the Italian and foreign theater season. The issues that the journal deals with are varied and span the entire history of European theater, from Greek theater to the Commedia dell'Arte, from the Italian Renaissance theater to the Nordic theater of Ibsen and Strindberg, from European symbolism to Pirandello.
